Plantronics GameCom has recently introduced the 777 Surround Sound Gaming Headset that brings virtual 5.1 surround sound effects to both ears.
While purists might argue that it is travesty to attempt 5.1 virtual surround sound effects through a pair of headphones as it will not sound as good as the real thing, many people are willing to settle for less.
Just take a look at the MP3 format - it surely loses out to CD quality , but then again MP3 is a real tour de force that looks set to stay on for many years since it is deemed 'good enough' by the masses.
