Pirelli Tire Cyber adds some Smarts to your slicks

Tire monitors are nothing new, but Pirelli that the idea a step further with the inclusion of sensors and microchips directly into the tyres themselves. Cyber Cyber rubber and rubber Lean can measure pressure, temperature and vehicle load, sending along information using RFID .

The self-powered Cyber Tire Lean, which hit the market first in 2010, incorporates sensors in the strip glued to the interior lining of the tire and communicate in one direction; proper Cyber Tire with sensors embedded directly arrive later, and is billed as an "intelligent tire" that interfaces with the systems on board, as ABS and traction control "correct wrong behaviour in advance." Of course, is fine - but please tell us all this material can be switched off when we need to do some evil burnouts, okay?
